Multistep Growth “Polymerizations”

چکیده
Chain-growth and step-growth polymerizations are the two main mechanisms that classically used to synthesize polymers. In this article, a third approach is usually not listed in polymer textbooks described, namely multistep growth “polymerization.” This synthetic strategy does proceed one pot as aforementioned ones but relies on series of distinct chemical reactions. It includes different types stepwise syntheses such solid-phase iterative chemistry, exponential growth, dendrimer synthesis. Although these methods more time-consuming experimentally demanding than chain-growth polymerizations, they allow very high level control over macromolecular structure. particular, enable perfect molecular parameters chain-length, weight, weight distribution, tacticity, comonomer sequence. Here, common “multistep growth” mechanism shared by all approaches described critically analyzed. Furthermore, structure, properties, applications formed polymers discussed. manuscript can serve reference guide understand rationalize emerging domain precision

Ultra-precise insertion of functional monomers in chain-growth polymerizations
Chain-growth polymerizations are popular methods because they allow synthesis of highmolecular weight polymers in high yields and in short times. However, copolymers prepared by such processes generally exhibit uncontrolled monomer sequences. The controlled radical copolymerization of styrene with N-substituted maleimides is an interesting exception allowing preparation of controlled primary st...
متن کاملMultiple Olefin Metathesis Polymerizations (MOMP)
Olefin metathesis polymerization, in particularly ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP), has been a popular topic of modern research. Two other types are acyclic diene metathesis polymerization (ADMET) and cyclopolymerization of diynes. To date, there has been no report on a metathesis polymerization utilizing more than one metathesis process. Herein, the concept of multiple olefin meta...
متن کاملRadical-Mediated Enzymatic Polymerizations
Polymerization reactions are commonly effected by exposing monomer formulations to some initiation stimulus such as elevated temperature, light, or a chemical reactant. Increasingly, these polymerization reactions are mediated by enzymes--catalytic proteins--owing to their reaction efficiency under mild conditions as well as their environmental friendliness. The utilization of enzymes, particul...
متن کاملEnzyme Initiated Radical Polymerizations
Biocatalysis is propagating into practically every area of organic chemistry, amongst them radical polymerizations. A review of the recent developments of this dynamic and quickly evolving area of research is presented together with a critical evaluation of its potential to yield novel polymers and/or environmentally more benign synthetic procedures.
